Singapore Red Cross generally does not accept ad hoc in-kind donations for international disaster responses due to logistical considerations.
Monetary donations enable humanitarian partners to procure the most urgently needed items locally or regionally, allowing assistance to reach affected communities more quickly and efficiently.

Can you allocate my donations to help in a specific area/group of people/buy certain items?

To ensure humanitarian assistance can be delivered effectively and based on operational needs, SRC is generally unable to allocate donations to specific groups, locations or items within the affected area.

How are donations used?

Accepted Answer

Funds raised support humanitarian relief and recovery based on needs assessments by local humanitarian partners on the ground, including the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. Assistance may include emergency relief, healthcare, shelter, WASH, livelihood recovery and other humanitarian needs. Any surplus funds remaining after three years may be used to support other disaster responses or sustain SRC's humanitarian programmes.Administrative fees are charged at 5 percent of the total amount collected (first S$5 million). Thereafter, the admin fees will fall between 2 percent to 1 percent for amounts collected above the first S$5 million.In the event that donations exceed the expenses incurred by Singapore Red Cross in this specific disaster response, any surplus or unspent money, after three years from the date of inception of the fund, can be used to prepare for and serve communities affected by other disasters or may be used to complement or to sustain projects undertaken by SRC in helping the vulnerable in areas affected by disasters.

Our appeal webpage will have the latest information on available donation methods on each appeal. You can make a donation through the Singapore Red Cross website, Giving.sg, DeeDa, PayNow or other official donation channels announced for each appeal.

How can I volunteer for overseas humanitarian deployments?

Individuals interested in future overseas humanitarian deployments may sign up for Singapore Red Cross' Overseas Disaster Deployment Training (ODDT) programme at https://redcross.sg/get-trained.html to be considered as part of a trained volunteer pool, subject to operational requirements, availability and deployment needs.

Singapore Red Cross works through trusted humanitarian partners, including Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement partners, to support relief and recovery efforts based on assessed humanitarian needs. Assistance is delivered in accordance with humanitarian principles and established governance and accountability mechanisms.

How much of my donation will go towards the disaster response?

Accepted Answer

Funds raised will support SRC's relief and recovery efforts based on the most urgent and evolving needs of affected communities. This may include relief supplies, emergency medical services, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), livelihood recovery, and other humanitarian needs identified through ground assessments. Where needed, SRC will also support longer-term recovery alongside humanitarian partners.

Will I receive tax exemption?

Accepted Answer

Individual and corporate donors can receive 100% tax deductions for overseas cash donations to fundraising appeals that qualify for the Overseas Humanitarian Assistance Tax Deduction Scheme (OHAS).
