SINGAPORE, 1 OCTOBER 2026 — As Singaporeans live longer, caregiving is becoming an increasingly important part of the life journey of many individuals and families. More people may find themselves caring for an ageing spouse, parent, family member or friend—and, at some point, receiving care themselves.

The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is launching free caregivers wellbeing training, delivered by the Singapore Red Cross Academy, as part of its commitment to building a more caring and resilient society.

The training was launched by Guest of Honour, Senior Parliamentary Secretary Mr Eric Chua, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social and Family Development & Ministry of Law, at the Singapore Red Cross’ “Reimagining Longevity: Contribution, Care & Community” forum, which brought together stakeholders from the public, private and social sectors to discuss how Singapore can respond to the opportunities and challenges of a super-aged population. Against this backdrop, SRC is translating these conversations into action by making caregiving knowledge and skills more accessible to the wider community.

Supporting 1,500 Caregivers to Thrive

Caring for a loved one can be deeply meaningful, but the demands of long-term care can also take a toll on a caregiver’s physical, emotional and financial wellbeing. The Singapore Red Cross Academy’s free “Wellbeing for Caregivers” course aims to reach at least 1,500 people, with particular attention to those managing complex and long-term care needs. The programme will equip participants with practical strategies to manage caregiver stress, communicate effectively in challenging caregiving situations, and develop a personal action plan to support ongoing well-being and resilience.

Mr Benjamin William, Secretary General/CEO, Singapore Red Cross, said, “Many caregivers quietly take on this responsibility out of love, often without thinking of themselves as caregivers and without asking for help. As we consider how to help seniors age well, we must also recognise the needs of those who care for them. Through this complimentary training, we hope to equip caregivers with practical knowledge and confidence, while encouraging them to seek support and look after their own well-being. No one should have to navigate the demands of caregiving alone.”

The launch was followed by a panel discussion with SPS Mr Eric Chua; Ms Eleanor Yap, Founder and Editor of Ageless Online; Mr Richard Siaw, Director at R.S. Solomon LLC; and Dr Jade Kua, Leadership & Longevity Coach at Jade Life & Wellness Coaching, moderated by Singapore Red Cross volunteer Augustine Anthuvan. Together, they explored approaches to strengthen community support for caregivers, foster connections across generations and enable seniors to continue contributing to society.
