[Nepal Flash Floods] Singapore Red Cross Commits $2 Million In 3rd Tranche of Humanitarian Aid

SINGAPORE, 25 SEPTEMBER 2026 – In its third tranche of humanitarian aid for communities affected by the recent flash floods in Nepal, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) is committing S$2 million to support immediate needs, including food and winterisation supplies, as well as targeted support for vulnerable groups such as children and women. 

A 6-person team was deployed to Nepal, where they respectively conducted field visits to affected areas in Nuwakot and Rasuwa, to assess needs and engage with humanitarian partners on the ground. Access to affected communities remains challenging, particularly in Rasuwa, where damaged roads and difficult terrain continue to hamper the delivery of assistance. In Nuwakot, communities in Trishuli have also faced disrupted access to healthcare following damage to road links across the river. The need for winterisation support ahead of the colder months remains critical. We will deploy a second follow-up team in November with a view to expanding our support based on the needs on the ground and to explore further support for the affected communities. The team will also explore longer term recovery and rebuilding projects.

The SRC will work closely with Red Cross Red Crescent Movement partners and community-based local partners to deliver targeted assistance, spanning immediate relief:

• Winterisation Support: Provision of winterisation support such as warm clothing, blankets, bedsheets and shoes
• Hygiene Support: Provision of hygiene products including soap and female dignity kits
• Basic Food Essentials: Provision of essential food items such as rice, cooking oil, spices and biscuits to affected families
• Education Support: Back-to-school assistance including uniforms, school bags,  stationery and school furniture
• Health and Wellbeing: Health and nutrition support for the elderly, pregnant women and new mothers

And addressing longer-term recovery needs:

• Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS): Capacity building for local communities including training for teachers to support Child Friendly Spaces, alongside longer-term community outreach to connect affected families and relocated communities with MHPSS.
• Livelihoods and Long-term Recovery: Livelihood support for widowed women and women-headed households, as well as vocational training to help affected people transition into new livelihoods. Long-term recovery efforts will also include rebuilding community facilities such as schools and health services.
• Possible Rebuilding or Restoring of essential public amenities like schools and health posts.

The latest commitment builds on SRC’s earlier support for communities affected by the floods. In its first tranche, SRC pledged S$50,000 towards the humanitarian response through the RCRC Movement and partners on the ground, alongside the launch of its public fundraising appeal. In its second tranche, SRC committed a further S$170,000 in humanitarian aid, including food supplies such as rice, lentils and other essential staples, as well as water filtration and purification supplies. This included 183 water filters and more than 100,000 water purification sachets, with the capacity to purify more than one million litres of contaminated water.

Strong Community Support

More than S$6.2 million has been raised to date through SRC’s public fundraising appeal, launched on 28 August 2026. Donations have been received from individuals, businesses and civic groups, alongside support from 60 ongoing community-led fundraisers across Singapore.

As relief efforts move beyond the emergency phase to sustained recovery and rebuilding phases, the SRC will continue to identify and fund projects to support the affected communities, with the funds raised. 

Across Nepal, the wider RCRC Movement response, led by the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is prioritising the most vulnerable communities, including displaced families, seniors, persons with disabilities, and women and children. To date, NRCS has reached at least 36,1000 people with relief assistance, shelter support, first aid and health services, as well as Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) support. The flash floods have caused significant loss of life, with at least 1,451 reported fatalities and a reported 5,700 people still missing.
