Situation Overview
On 24 June 2026, two powerful earthquakes struck north-central Venezuela in rapid succession. The first, measuring magnitude 7.2, was followed approximately 39 seconds later by a magnitude 7.5 earthquake, causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure and essential services.
Two months on, affected communities continue to face significant humanitarian needs. More than 6,500 people have been reported to have lost their lives, while search and recovery efforts continue and thousands of people remain displaced.
As of 17 August, more than 86,000 people had been treated in hospitals, while over 19,500 people remained in temporary accommodation across 108 sites. More than 10,000 housing units assessed by authorities had also been classified as high risk.
As communities move from immediate emergency towards recovery, needs continue to evolve, including access to healthcare, safe water and sanitation, mental health and psychosocial support, shelter and other essential services.
Singapore Red Cross Support
Following the earthquakes, the Singapore Red Cross (SRC) launched the Venezuela Earthquake public appeal to support humanitarian relief and recovery efforts for affected communities.
S$150,000 committed by SRC
towards humanitarian response efforts by the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and partners on the ground in Venezuela, through two tranches:

Committed in June 2026 towards immediate humanitarian relief efforts
S$50,000 | Second tranche
Committed in August 2026 as humanitarian needs continue to evolve
S$409,139.97 raised through the Singapore Red Cross appeal as of 31 August 2026.
Red Cross Response on the Ground
The Venezuelan Red Cross, supported by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Red Cross Red Crescent partners, continues to work alongside affected communities as needs evolve.
Response at a glance
- 2,181 families (estimated 8,724 people) reached with essential households, health and hygiene items
- 1,509 families reached with shelter supplies
- 2,311 people reached with mental health and psychosocial support services
- 136,000 litres of clean water distributed with one water treatment plant set up
- 9 handwashing stations and 4 hydration stations installed at critical locations, including hospitals and outpatient clinics
In La Guaira, an emergency clinic set up by the IFRC and managed by the Spanish Red Cross is reinforcing the Venezuelan Red Cross field hospital. The clinic is providing health and psychosocial services that are expected to benefit close to 30,000 people.
Why continuity of healthcare matters
For people living with chronic health conditions, continued access to treatment remains important as communities move towards recovery.
Among those receiving support is Gabriel Cipriani, who lost close relatives when his building collapsed and lives with a neurological condition that requires regular medication.
For Gabriel, the continued presence of the Red Cross means being able to maintain access to the treatment he needs.

Looking Ahead
Two months after the earthquakes, affected communities continue to face humanitarian and recovery needs.
As the response progresses, continued support remains important for access to healthcare, safe water and sanitation, mental health and psychosocial support, shelter and other essential assistance.
The Singapore Red Cross continues to support relief and recovery efforts for communities affected by the Venezuela earthquakes, working through the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement and ground partners based on assessed humanitarian needs.
