This classroom-based training course equips learners with the competencies to provide first aid outlined by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) in the Child First Aid Provider Course, covering CPR, AED use, choking response and first aid for adult, child and infant casualties.

Course Highlights
Learners will be able to:
- Explain the duties and responsibilities of a Child First Aid Provider.
- Perform BCLS+AED effectively on an unconscious adult casualty.
- Manage Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in conscious and unconscious adult casualties.
- Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) effectively on an unconscious infant casualty.
- Manage Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) in conscious and unconscious infant casualties.
- Provide first aid to adult, child and infant casualties.
- Manage a medical emergency.
Prerequisite Requirements
- Prior reading of the SRFAC Standard First Aid & BCLS+AED Manuals.
- Valid (not expired) CFA Provider Certification (SRFAC-accredited).
- Register for the refresher course three months before your certificate’s expiry date (max 3-month grace period). (optional)
- Must be physically fit and able to render help to another individual during an emergency.
- Medically fit with no pre-existing conditions (e.g. knee, spinal or joint injuries); consult a doctor if unsure.
- Pregnant learners are discouraged from CPR practice; consult a doctor and provide a memo if unsure.

Curriculum & Modules
Module 1 - Essentials of First Aid
Definition and aims of first aid; role of a First Aider; universal precautions; First Aid Kit; primary/secondary survey; SCDF MyResponder App; child vs adult differences.
Module 2 - Unconscious Casualty (Non-Cardiac Arrest)
Head/spinal injuries, heat disorders, fever, fits, fainting, low blood sugar, stroke; recovery position and lateral position for infants.
Module 3 - Respiratory Problems
Adult and infant Foreign Body Airway Obstruction; asthma (MDI with spacer); hyperventilation; fumes inhalation; allergic reaction (EpiPen).
Module 4 - Shock, Bleeding & Wounds
Shock; bleeding; wounds (bruises, lacerations, incisions, abrasions, amputations, bites and stings); bandaging and tourniquet application.
Module 5 - Musculoskeletal Injuries
Fractures and dislocations; soft tissue injuries; immobilisation and bandaging (arm, wrist, collarbone, shoulder, leg, ankle).
Module 6 - Burn Injuries
Burn depth and severity; classification and treatment of scalding, radiation, chemical, electrical and thermal burns.
Module 7 - Other First Aid Knowledge
Eye injuries; foreign bodies; vomiting and diarrhoea; common rashes; epistaxis; poisoning; transportation of casualty.
Module 8 - CPR (Hands-Only) + AED
Theory of CPR+AED; practice of adult CPR+AED; practice of infant CPR.
Assessment & Certificate
Certificate Type
- Accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC). Approved by the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).
- A credit card-sized certificate with 2 years validity will be issued upon successful completion by attaining Competent.
- Mouth-To-Mouth (MTM) ventilations for BCLS+AED course will be replaced with Bag Valve Mask (BVM) for training and assessment until further notice. This will be indicated on the Provider Certificate as BCLS+AED (BVM instead of MTM ventilations was taught).
- This course will holistically indicate the acquiring of 3 certifications: Standard First Aid Provider, BCLS+AED Provide, Child First Aid Provider
Assessment
Written:
50 MCQs. 80% to pass (40/50).
Up to 3 attempts to pass.
100% attendance required.
Practical:
BCLS+AED (MTM/BVM with QCPR), bandaging (1 bleeding + 1 fracture), tourniquet application, conscious/unconscious FBAO, EpiPen and MDI with spacer administration.
Up to 3 attempts to pass.
