Basic Cardiac Life Support + AED (BCLS+AED) is an intensive training programme covering high-quality resuscitation techniques for all age groups and AED use. Ideal for healthcare workers, organisations, families, parents, volunteers, and individuals who wish to be certified competent in resuscitation skills.
This classroom-based training course will equip learners with the competencies to provide skills outlined by Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC) in the BCLS+AED Provider Course, covering CPR, AED use and airway obstruction management for adult and infant casualties.

Course Highlights
- Explain the duties and responsibilities of a BCLS+AED Provider
- Perform CPR effectively on adult and infant unconscious casualties
- Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) on adult casualties
- Relieve Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (FBAO) on adult and infant casualties
- Manage a medical emergency
Prerequisite Requirements
- Prior reading of the SRFAC BCLS+AED Provider Manual completed before the course.
- Recommended: at least Secondary Two education or ESS Workplace Literacy and Numeracy Level 5.
- Must be physically fit and able to render help to another individual during an emergency.
- Medically fit with no pre-existing conditions (e.g. knee, spinal or joint injuries); consult a doctor if unsure.
- Pregnant learners are discouraged from CPR practice; consult a doctor and provide a memo if unsure.
- Refresher: valid BCLS+AED certification; register up to 3 months before expiry (max 3-month grace).

- Individuals seeking BCLS+AED Provider certification. This course is intended for patient-facing healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, dentists and allied health staff. Certification must be renewed every two years.

Module 1 - Cardiac Arrest and You
- Understanding the Chain of Survival
- Recognising cardiac arrest
- Importance of early CPR and AED use
- Duties and responsibilities of a BCLS+AED Provider
Module 2 - Adult Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Adult CPR)
- Primary survey and DRSABCD
- Adult chest compressions and rescue breaths (using BVM)
- 30:2 CPR cycle for adult casualties
- Placing an unconscious casualty in the recovery position
Module 3 - Automated External Defibrillation (AED)
- Principles of early defibrillation
- AED pad placement and safety checks
- Integrating AED use with ongoing CPR
Module 4 - Adult Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Adult FBAO)
- Recognising choking in a conscious adult
- Back blows and abdominal thrusts
- Managing an unconscious FBAO casualty
Module 5 - Infant Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (Infant CPR)
- Key differences between infant and adult CPR
- Infant chest compressions and rescue breaths
- 30:2 CPR cycle for infant casualties
Module 6 - Infant Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Infant FBAO)
- Recognising choking in a conscious infant
- Back blows and chest thrusts for infants
- Managing an unconscious infant FBAO casualty
Assessment & Certificate
Certificate Type
This course is accredited by the Singapore Resuscitation and First Aid Council (SRFAC).
A credit card-sized certificate with 2 years validity will be issued upon successful completion by attaining Competent.
Mouth-To-Mouth (MTM) ventilations for BCLS+AED course will be replaced with Bag Valve Mask (BVM) for training and assessment until further notice.
This will be indicated on the Provider Certificate as BCLS+AED (BVM instead of MTM ventilations was taught).
Assessment
Written:
(i) Written Assessment (Up to 2 attempts to pass) – 30 Multiple Choice Questions.
(80% to pass, 24/30)
Practical:
Adult CPR+AED (5 cycles of 30:2 within 2 minutes), Adult FBAO, Infant CPR and Infant FBAO.
Up to 3 attempts to pass.
