Red Cross Memories: Wong Jun Da

I was nine when I was diagnosed with leukaemia. When I was undergoing chemotherapy, my blood platelet count would occasionally drop to a dangerously low level which would have been fatal without blood transfusion. I needed urgent blood transfusion to save my life. I am very thankful to the blood donors who saved my life. Without you, I will not be here today. My condition is now under control and I am currently a student of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts.

While I may be a blood recipient, my brother, Wong Jun Sheng, who is four years older, is a blood donor. I remember when we were growing up, my brother couldn’t wait to grow up to donate blood to save my life. But my brother’s blood type ‘B’ is not a match for my blood type ‘A’. But I am glad that my brother is able to save the lives of others who, like me need blood to save or sustain their lives.
