Red Cross Memories: Kek Siew Kok

I started out with the Red Cross as a volunteer ambulance driver and first aid giver, after clearing the first aid assessment at 17 years old. I was part of the Red Cross teams that extended help at local disasters like the Geylang fire in 1953, the Bukit Ho Swee fire in 1961, the major flood that hit Potong Pasir in 1978, the explosion of the Spyros tanker, cable car tragedy in 1983 and Hotel New World collapse. I'm a senior volunteer and mentor to the volunteers.

First Aid skills are life skills. Learn them to help the vulnerable. Volunteer to put what you learnt into practice. Don't waste good skills.
