Blood Donor Recruitment Programme

BACKGROUND

The Singapore Red Cross’s (SRC’s) Blood Donor Recruitment Programme (BDRP) works in partnership with the Health Sciences Authority’s Blood Services Group (BSG) to educate, recruit, retain, and recognise blood donors as part of our role as the National Blood Programme’s national recruiter.

  • With blood donors currently making up less than 2% of Singapore’s residential population, there is an ongoing and urgent need to build a sustainable donor pool towards ensuring a healthy and constant supply of safe blood at all times. To that end, BDRP’s mission is aligned with the following objectives:
  • Educate the general public on the importance of blood donation towards recruiting eligible donors
  • Recruit first-time donors with a view to retaining and converting them to become regular donors
  • Recognise regular and champion blood donors and, in turn, inspire and retain a new generation of blood donors
  • Work with key partners to ensure blood donation is convenient, safe, and accessible through community blood-drives and group donations at blood banks
  • Work with key partners to elevate blood donation as a key pillar of our national and of organisations’ Total Defence, community building/resilience, philanthropy/charity, and healthcare agendas.

JOB PURPOSE

BDRP’s Marketing and Communications function is responsible for the planning and implementation of key marketing and communications activities and initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the importance of blood donation, educating the general public and donors on relevant issues, and promoting the national blood programme as a fundamental pillar of community resilience.

Working in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders, the Marketing and Communications Senior Executive/Executive will undertake and implement relevant activities to achieve these goals.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Gain an in-depth understanding of the marketing and communication needs of the Blood Donor Recruitment Programme.
  2. Manage, design, and develop new/existing collateral, initiatives, and assets to meet current operational and strategic objectives.
  3. Develop content, attend to enquiries, and actively promote blood donation on our online/social media platforms.
  4. Actively manage our donor retention and recognition programmes, including working with external vendors to source and produce tokens of appreciation for blood donors.
  5. Provide relevant marketing and communications advice and support to colleagues as required.
  6. Provide support for managing BDRP’s key partners, creative and media agencies, external vendors, and stakeholders towards ensuring the timely delivery and proper implementation of projects and initiatives.
  7. Work in partnership with SRC’s Corporate Communications and Marketing team to spearhead marketing and publicity efforts for external events.
  8. Contribute to the visibility and enhance the public profile of the National Blood Programme through relevant initiatives.
  9. Ensure consistent messaging across all blood donation educational materials.

JOB SPECIFICATION

Qualifications:

  • Possess an undergraduate degree in a marketing and/or communications-related discipline from a recognised university

Experience:

  • At least two years of relevant experience in a similar or related role

Required experience, skills, and knowledge:

  • Experience in marketing/communications, content development, digital/social media communications and/or prior experience in a creative agency
  • Strong writing skills and a keen eye for design, including the ability to produce eye-catching marketing materials using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and/or related programs
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing marcomms projects and initiatives
  • Ability to communicate, negotiate, and engage professionally and confidently with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with different timelines
  • Interest in the non-profit/charity sector
  • Business-level proficiency in the use of MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Willing to work on weekends as required.

Events & Roadshow Fundraising

Primary Duties & Responsibility

  • Professionally advocate & raise awareness on behalf of the less fortunate of the society
  • Sign up donors looking to pledge towards the organization
  • Train and show the ropes to newer Red Cross Ambassadors on the role
  • Attend product knowledge training, upskilling workshops when required

Requirements

  • Passionate about Red Cross’s humanitarian causes 
  • Professional, reliable, creative and outgoing
  • Prior experience in Fundraising and regular Volunteering is an advantage
  • Fluent in English and a second language (to liaise with a second language speaking associates)

Red Cross Home for the Disabled 

Responsibilities:

Nursing Care and Management

  • Provide and ensure that quality nursing care and service is rendered to the residents / clients at all times.
  • Assist the RN(s) in ensuring and providing safe nursing practice and a high standard of care.
  • Ensure the Nursing Aides and Healthcare Aides follow the safety precautions / practices in the prevention of falls, hazards and/or pressure sores.
  • Assist the RN in attending to emergencies as and when the need arises
  • Able to perform nursing procedures independently such as:
    • NG Tube Insertion
    • Simple Wound Dressings
    • Hygiene Practices such as isolation nursing, proper handwashing techniques and management of waste products
  • Maintaining proper documentation of vital signs and reporting to the RNon duty / in-charge when there is a change in the residents / clients condition.
  • Assist the RN in the serving of residents’ medications; monitor and supervise the Nursing Aides when feeding the medication to residents ­ ensuring zero (0) medication errors.
  • Together with the RN on duty / in­-charge, to participate and assist in the Volunteer Doctor’s rounds.
  • Collaborates and cooperates with other healthcare professionals to ensure proper and smooth delivery of care and service.
  • Accompanies the residents/clients for clinic/hospital appointments and / or transfers, when the need arises.
  • Respects and protects the rights and responsibilities of the residents / clients.
  • To be on call in the event of an emergency in the Home.

Professional Development

  • Mentor and supervise Nursing Aides and Healthcare Aides in their scope of work, clinical skills and especially in the maintenance of safe work practices and infection control standards.
  • Participates in on­going nursing education to enhance clinical knowledge and competency.
  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Educator/Clinical Instructor for on-the- job training of Nursing Aides and Healthcare Aides.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned by Head, Nursing.

Administration

  • Assist the RN in the preparation of the duty rosters.
  • Assist the RN in the preparation and maintenance of documentation.

Customer Management

  • Acts as a liaison to clients and their families, maintaining good rapport and service
  • Maintaining good relations whilst liaising with external agencies such as but not limited to, hospitals, clinics, etc.
  • Maintain good relations with internal customers of the Home.
  • Maintain, at all times, good public relations with volunteers and visitors

Requirements:

  • National Institute of Technical Education (ITE): Certificate in Nursing or its equivalent
  • Valid practicing license as an Enrolled Nurse with Singapore Nursing Board
  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience in a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Some experience in working with persons with disabilities or the elderly would be preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care and ensure quality service is rendered to the residents at all times
  • Work closely with the Social Worker in assessment of cases referred for admission and respite care, and the periodic review of cases for continual stay
  • Work in partnership with the Social Worker and other health professionals in developing and sustaining the needed programmes for the residents
  • Work in collaboration with the Nurse Educator/ Clinical Instructor with regards to training
  • Develop, evaluate and modify care plans for residents
  • Assess the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of residents through observation and analysis of physical health indicators to evaluate care plan and identify modifications which may be required
  • Conduct frequent rounds with staff to check on residents’ health and medical conditions
  • Accompany volunteer doctor on rounds, providing information on resident condition and progress, and
    assists with examinations, e.g. ADL, well-being, etc.
  • Transcribe verbal or written doctor’s orders for medication or other treatment
  • Prepare precise dosages of medication in accordance with doctor’s orders and administers to residents
  • Follow-up on the medical programme advised by the clinic or hospital doctors and volunteer doctor
  • Supervise and guide the staff assigned to the home to ensure that proper care giving, nursing, and administrative procedures are maintained
  • Supervise the medical assistance rendered to patients are in lieu with training and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Administer first aid and emergency health measures, such as CPR
  • Perform dressing of wounds and lesions
  • Practice sterile techniques and other infection control procedures to minimize the transmission of infection
  • Monitor and participate in the personal care of residents/clients, as required; for example, hygiene, feeding, positioning, transferring, ambulation, toileting
  • Use electric/hydraulic/manual equipment and lifting devices when required
  • Counsel, instruct, and confer with resident/ client family in planning care: provides emotional support; responds to enquiries and resolves complaints
  • Ensure that food prepared to meet the dietary requirement of the residents
  • Prepare staff duty rosters
  • Prepare and maintain documentation such as care plans, health care records, medication administration, nursing records and reports
  • Submission of reports to Head, RCHD
  • Act as liaison to existing clients and their families, maintaining good rapport and service
  • Maintain at all times good public relations with volunteers and visitors

Requirements

  • Possess a recognised university degree/ Certificate or Diploma in Nursing
  • State Registered Nurse
  • 5-10 years of relevant working experience in a hospital or healthcare environment
  • Experience in working with the disabled or the elderly preferred
  • Ability to perform holistic assessments/ reassessments for residents regardless of complexity to establish a comprehensive plan for care.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work activity and provide work direction to staff members in order to complete assignments
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge to monitor staff performance and the environment ensuring a safe workplace for staff; provides reinstruction where needed
  • Basic computer skills
  • Able to act as a coordinator of care for complex residents, sharing nursing expertise and demonstrating leadership while working in collaboration with other care providers
  • Able to work independently, but is also a good team player
  • Self-motivated, resourceful and innovative

Responsibilities:

  • Observe residents/clients during treatment to compile and evaluate data on residents’/ clients’ responses and progress and report to physical therapist
  • Instruct, motivate, safeguard and assist residents’/ clients’ practicing exercises and functional activities, under the direction of nursing staff.
  • Transport clients using appropriate equipment to and from treatment areas and/or as directed by therapist
  • Confer with physical therapy staff and others to discuss and evaluate
  • Documentation of treatment rendered and observations of client during treatment
  • Maintenance of equipment and proper stocking of treatment supplies
  • Ensure cleanliness of Therapy area
  • Assist in attending to clients activities of Daily Living
  • Any other duties as directed by therapist and/or Nurse Manager

  • Assist Nursing Aides, Staff Nurses, and other staff

Requirements:

  • GCE ‘O’ or ‘N’ Levels or its equivalent
  • Healthcare Aide Certificate (from country of origin) or its equivalent
  • Basic nursing skills, such as feeding, turning, changing, bathing etc.
  • Relevant working experience in nursing homes or hospitals
  • Housekeeping experience
  • Able to understand and communicate in English
  • Independent and a good team player

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Staff Nurse in providing nursing care such as dressing, serving medication, etc
  • Supervise the Healthcare Aides and volunteers
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Certificate in Healthcare (Local)
  • Certificate in Midwifery or Degree in Nursing (Foreign)
  • Relevant working experience in nursing homes or hospitals
  • Good at taking instructions
  • Able to understand and communicate in English

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the food preparation process.
  • Assist in the receiving of donated food and kitchen-related items.
  • Ensure hygiene and safety of kitchen at all time and the cleanliness of all equipment and utensils.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Primary School Education
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience in food preparation

Community Resilience - TransportAid

Responsibilities:

  • Drive the ambulance to transport clients to and from their appointments and back to their residence
  • Render first aid when needed to clients during transportation as per Standard Operating Procedure and guidelines
  • Load and unload clients to the trolley or wheelchair
  • Complete the pre and post ambulance checklist daily and or the responder daily medical checklist
  • Record the mileage utilized at each run and maintain the cleanliness and road worthiness of the ambulance
  • Ensure sufficient stock of medical supplies and their availability for us in the ambulance
  • As the assigned responder, check and test that medical equipment in the ambulance is operational and serviced when required
  • Attend to ambulance emergency hotline when required or assigned
  • Maintain proper records of the patients and service provided
  • As the assigned responder, attend to ambulance hotline when required or assigned
  • As the assigned responder, answer and or ensure calls are attended to promptly
  • Monitor and evaluate the services and activities of ambulance service through feedback and documentation on the feedback form
  • Continue to evaluate and enhance services
  • When assigned, drive the ambulance when mobilized for first aid cover in events, or during Disaster Management (DM) standby as assigned by SRC/CS HOD

Requirements:

  • Possess “O”/”N” Levels, or its equivalent
  • Valid class 3 driving license, with clean driving record
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in relevant experience preferred
  • Previous experience as paramedic/medic would be an added advantage
  • Good command of both spoken and written English
  • Multilingual, with the ability to converse in local dialects, would be an added advantage
  • First aid and CPR certified (any other required certification as stipulated by MOH)
  • Computer literate, with good command in Microsoft Office package (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint)
  • Good written skills in particular report writing
  • Independent as well as a good team player, with the ability to relate well to people of all levels, especially with volunteers
